What Are Alignment Pins?

Alignment Pins serve a variety of functions in jig & fixture construction. Most commonly, alignment pins are used to align workpieces to Workholders, or, position removable workholding elements.

Traditionally, alignment pins are made from steel or other alloy steels. Maintaining precise alignment within all your fixtures helps to ensure overall accuracy and quality machine performance. Maintaining correct alignment with Carr Lane Mfg. alignment pins can help fixtures maintain overall accuracy and efficiency.

Types of Alignment Pins

Carr Lane Mfg. offers a complete line of alignment pins, including standard pins, locking pins, quick-release pins and ball lock alignment pins to meet any workholding need. Carr Lane Mfg. also provides cable assemblies and nylon lanyards to attach alignment pins to a workholder.

Standard Alignment Pins: This category includes five primary pin types, including L Pins, T Pins, Jig Pins, shoulder Pins and Clamping Pins. Specific mount of these pins is determined by the application.
Locking Alignment Pins: Clamping pins, L pins and T pins are available with a locking bushing, which can be installed to securely attach to the mounting plate. This type of alignment pin is useful for holding in position when a workholder is turned upside down.
Quick-Release Pins: Quick-release alignment pins have an integral locking mechanism in the pin itself, which retains it in the hole. This line of products includes detent pins, featuring a threaded end and ground shank.
Ball Lock Pins: This group of alignment pins includes single-acting Ball Lock Pins, double-acting Ball Lock Pins, adjustable Ball Lock Pins, and Lifting Pins. These pins are similar to the detent type, except they have a positive ball locking mechanism
